The Batik Art of Fatimah Chik

Here's a look at Fatimah Chik's career as 'batik artist'. Actually her works do also incorporate other forms of resist dyeing but her motifs are very local, very Asian. The very fact that she is not overseas-trained but had her art education in UTM (now called UiTM - Universiti Teknologi MARA) and batik skill training in local batik factories under various batik 'sifu's, gives her work a very untainted originality. Her only foray overseas, following her late husband to Hawaii, was the impetus for her to research on Asian culture and motifs.

A book has been published about her art. Through this, we can see her development from textile designer to batik and resist artist.
